Carl Pieterse

Hello, my name is Carl Pieterse. I am an intern Specialist Wellness Counsellor at Humanitas Counselling. I graduated from Nelson Mandela University with my Masters in Research Psychology in 2018, specialising in men and masculinities. Subsequent to completing my masters, I lectured at Nelson Mandela University for 3 years and have an additional 6 years of experience researching a variety of topics related to the field of psychology such as: LGBTQI+, Mental Health Literacy, Service Quality in Higher Education, Student Leadership, and Liberation Heritage to name a few. I have facilitated support groups for substance abuse, safe spaces initiatives, LGBTQI+ community, and men’s work. While I typically work from a person-centred approach, I have experience integrating narrative, cognitive behavioural, and acceptance and commitment techniques to best suit the needs of my clients. For as a long as I can remember I have wanted to help people, I found the best way of doing that is by empowering people to connect with and explore deeper parts of themselves in a safe and non-judgemental environment. I enjoy working with individual and couple clients on a wide range of topics ranging from daily challenges to more private topics such as sex and sexuality.
