Hi there!
My names are Vunene and Kimberly, you can call me whichever one you are most comfortable with. The name Vunene means “an emotional person who is known to be generous and altruistic”, and I would like to believe my name defines who I am. I am a Vita Nova Specialist Wellness Counsellor (intern) who began her psychology journey with the University of Pretoria and is proud to be “a Tukkie’s cum laude alumni.” I completed my Honours in Psychology with The South African College of Applied Psychology (SACAP) last year.
I am deeply interested in Attachment & Childhood Development, Trauma, Substance Abuse, Loss & Grief, Abnormal Psychology, Sexual Orientation (LGBTQ+) and Self-Care. I love working with teens and young adults, and my end goal is to become a Clinical Psychologist. The approach I prefer to use within a counselling setting is a Person Centred Approach (PCA) incorporated with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), whereby I will actively focus on your needs and utilize your pace to help you approach your emotional and intellectual experiences/challenges in a healthy manner.
The counselling process may seem overwhelming and unsettling, as it requires you to be vulnerable during difficult times, and I would be honoured to be the person whom you allow into your safe space, as I would love for this to be a trusting and fruitful relationship to the best of your interests (be it through painting/baking/journaling, practising healthy self-care routines, and/or just being the extra attentive ear). I am able to communicate in English, xiTsonga, TshiVenda, Sepedi and isiZulu. I look forward to tagging along on your journey in this life.
