Working with children can bring about an array of joys as well as challenges. We do not expect children to function on the level of adults in their day-to-day lives, nor should we expect children to experience, work through and communicate trauma or difficult life changes in the same manner as adults do. If you want to work with children successfully, you have to let go of adult– norms and standards, find the child within, meet your child-client’s level and communicate with them there. A full and in-depth understanding of the child is necessary – understanding developmental stages, any developmental delays, attachment, as well as temperament is crucial in order to successfully work with children.
In this 2 day course, presented by Anschel Pieterson, various aspects with regards to working with children will be discussed and where possible, practical implementation thereof will be outlined.

A good balance of theory and practical!
Facilitator was very knowledgeable and there were practical explanations to implementing the theory.
The course was filled with so much information that I learned so much more than I expected. It was very helpful and I feel more confident about working with children now. What I also enjoyed as well was when everyone shared their experiences, it helped me get a better understanding/ perspective to the content being shared.
I enjoyed doing some of the activities and it reminded me how vulnerable you can feel in a therapeutic setup.
Thank you to a well prepared and knowledgeable facilitator.
Facilitator is wonderful and made the course very interesting.
Anschel was an excellent facilitator. She handled each module with expertise and shared her experiences.
Continue running this workshop – I think it is very important for social workers.
We had a lot of practical activities that will help me when working with children. I am very excited for next term. I have a better understanding of what is expected from me in the therapy room.
